Types of Brief:

Contractual Brief: A brief that outlines the terms and conditions of a brief between a client and a media producer. It is a legal document that must be signed by both parties in order to be legally binding. They usually outline the following

  • Pay and Budget
  • Rules and regulations that are to be followed when shooting
  • Schedules and timetables
  • Guidelines that pertain to the expectations of the client
This brief is usually established to avoid mistakes being made when a producer has been hired to create a media production. If it is not followed correctly the media production company/service that has been commissioned can face legal action taken by the client. It reduces the need for negotiation.

PROS:
  • Gives the production company an advantage as they have complete transparency in regards to what is expected of them by the client.
  • Usually everything done by the production company is covered by insurance
  • It guarantees that the media company will get paid .
