Lesson 1: Purpose and impact of social action & community media
Social action & community media is a form of advertisement, that advertises a specific topic that may not be known or spoken about within a community. It provides people with a chance to do something about it or create a change within a community.
It's purpose is to shed light on current issues and to show the audience that things may become much worse if no action is taken to change or fix the problem.
Impacts of Social Action:
- Local Change: Current issues within a community that are concerning to the public
- E.g: Drug abuse, Gang culture, littering etc..
- These negative issues can be changed through local change and can be made into positive ones. It can be done through various strategies and solutions.
- E.g: Community parties, Workshops, Youth engagement and surveys that the public can use to voice what they may think needs to change in order to make a more positive community
- National Change: A change within a country , where certain issues are shared with the members of the public, so that they can try and create a positive outcome. One of the ways this is done is through democracy.
- Global Change: A change that is is made on a larger and wider scale than just local or national change. It is used to incite change around the whole world, on issues that may affect everyone across the globe.
